In this class we examine what it means to perform a Shakespearean monologue; a major part of professional theatre auditions. We will look at how to make, what seems like exposition, active. We will also examine what it means to think as a Shakespearean character, what it means to move as one, speak as one, and why none of this truly matters!

We will also look at the difference between Comedy, Romance, Tragedy, and History and why it’s good to know that difference.

I will show you why ‘poetry’ is a bad word when it comes to Shakespeare. Duh, duh, duuuuuhn. (Soap Opera Sound)

Great for audition prep, if you have a trusted piece, you’d like to use I welcome you to bring it. If not, I will provide resources.

All artists will work with one verse and one prose piece.

(Techniques used Meyerhold, Brecht)
